To Our Friends and Neighbors:

While many of you are year ‘round residents, the business of Beach Haven is tourism.  Since the Pharos and Baldwins first came to our beloved island over 140 years ago, we have been a resort community promoting sun, surf and fun.  Commerce has developed along the needs of our residents and visitor alike.

One of these areas of commerce has been fishing, both commercial and recreational.  Unfortunately, our friends in Washington, DC have seen fit to further reduce the amount of summer flounder, aka fluke, which will be permitted to be caught.  While the Beach Haven Board of Commissioners is in full support of the intent of the Magnuson-Steven Fishery Conservation and Management Act to rebuild the populations of over-fished species, we do not believe that the fluke quota should be further reduced, as the fluke population is at its highest level in the last seventy years.  We felt the potential negative impact on fishing activities and tourism necessitated the passage of this resolution.

Please see the resolution which we passed and the accompanying letter to Congressman Saxton below.
