As we move into November and the Holiday season, Beach Haven remains an exciting and active community in which to live. With the help of Beach Haven Future, Borough employees and countless residents Beach Heaven played host to a number of successful events during our 125th anniversary celebration. Our most recent event, “Fall Fest,” was a huge success and represented a true celebration of autumn at the shore. All age groups gathered in Veterans’ Park for activities including pie eating, pumpkin painting, pony rides and scarecrow viewing. Additionally local businesses provided a wide range of food and beverages for all to enjoy. We owe a great deal of thanks to the Borough employees and the volunteers of Beach Haven Future for producing the event and making it the success that it was.
Gala Dinner – On November 14th we hope you will join us for one of the final programs of our 125th anniversary celebration – the Beach Haven Gala Dinner and After Party. Tucker’s Restaurant is hosting the dinner and Buckalew’s is hosting the After Party later in the evening. There are limited seats available so to avoid disappointment please contact the Borough Clerk’s Office to purchase tickets before they sell out. If you can’t make the dinner at Tucker’s please join us after 8 pm at Buckalew’s for music and dancing.
As we get closer to the end of the year we still have many holiday events in which to look forward. Please be sure to check the Borough website www.beachhaven-nj.gov for a list of events taking place.
Beach Replenishment- Beach Haven’s beach replenishment project is scheduled to start in January 2016. In preparation for this the Borough Engineer has placed stakes with pink ribbons on the street ends. The stakes represent the bulkhead line or more simply the start of the new dunes. Land west of the bulkhead line should remain as it is while land to east of the line will be covered with new sand to a height of 22 feet above sea level. In a few instances our existing dunes already exceed that height and will remain unaltered. If you have any questions about the bulkhead line or the replenishment project in general please call the Borough Offices and leave me a message. Our team is standing by to answer your questions and to help minimize the inconvenience of the project as much as possible.
On a related note, I am sorry to report that large portions of Beach Haven’s beaches will be closed while the replenishment project is underway. I therefore encourage you to take advantage of the beaches now. Despite the severe Nor’easter we experienced in October, our beaches are healthy and wide open. This is a wonderful time of year for a stroll on the beach.
Beach Haven Borough Hall Project – Many of you have noticed that the old Borough Hall on Engleside and Bay is no longer there. With its demolition last month the new municipal building project has finally begun, and by this time next year we should be moved into our new civic office space. Shortly, the fencing surrounding the construction site will be covered with banners depicting architectural renderings of the new building as well as some wonderful historic photos of Beach Haven.
Again, if you have any questions or concerns about this building project please call me at the Borough or, better yet, come to our next Council meeting.
Winterization – For those of you who aren’t here during the winter, do not forget to winterize your homes. Last winter there were many broken pipes that left many residents with increased water bills. Remind your plumber that your water needs to be turned off at the meter. The Borough is working to create a warning system which will notify residents of excessive water use but it will not be in place before the winter weather begins so please be sure to protect your property and pocketbook from freezing temperatures.
Finally, please remember to visit Beach Haven during the winter. The town is quieter than it is the rest of the year but many people enjoy the peace and beauty that they find during the winter months. Beach Haven is always a great place for reflection, enjoying nature and getting together with friends and family. We hope to see you soon!
