CONSTRUCTION OFFICIAL & FLOODPLAIN MANAGER

The Beach Haven Borough Construction Office, acting as the lead agency for a municipal interlocal agreement, is seeking a qualified individual to serve as full-time Licensed Construction Official and Floodplain Manager. This position will serve the Boroughs of Beach Haven, Surf City, Harvey Cedars, and Barnegat Light.

The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated and detail-oriented professional with a strong understanding of New Jersey’s Uniform Construction Code (UCC) and the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Construction Official for all four municipalities, overseeing the administration and enforcement of the NJ Uniform Construction Code.
  • Manage all Floodplain activities, ensuring compliance with NFIP regulations and local ordinances.
  • Review construction plans, issue permits, and perform inspections to ensure compliance with all applicable codes and regulations.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all construction and floodplain management activities.
  • Communicate effectively with homeowners, contractors, design professionals, and municipal staff.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess a valid New Jersey Construction Official license.
  • Must possess a valid NJ Floodplain Manager certification.
  • NJ Building Sub-code Official license (preferred).
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in construction, code enforcement, or a related field is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills are essential.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of municipal government operations is a plus.

This is a unique opportunity to serve four beautiful and dynamic municipalities on Long Beach Island. The position offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package.

Salary Range:  $85,000-$115,000
